Project 4: Montage

OliviaAnderson-P4Montage-Hands

Description: A spiritual montage made by blending two images and a background.

Process:

  1. Opened Photoshop and cropped the background to 8.5 x 11.
  2. I selected the image of Jesus Christ and the children around him, placed the photo on the right side of the background, and added a mask.
  3. Using 10% – 20% opacity and a white paint brush I painted the hard edges of the image so the background and photo would blend.
  4. I repeated that process with the adult and child holding hands.
  5. I left white space above and below the hands that helped simplify the photo
  6. I used to different fonts to put emphasis on the important words. Also I added a outer glow and drop shadow around the quote to make it stand out and be legible.
  7. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop

Message: I wanted to convey a spiritual message that Jesus Christ will always lead and help everyone throughout their life.

Audience: Anyone who wants to feel uplifted and remember where they can find help.

Top Thing Learned: How to blend two images and be artistic with them.

Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: I selected the hands and added the unsharp mask filter for clarity.

Color scheme and color name: Monochromatic – Brick

Title Font Name & Category 1: Myriad Pro Regular – Sans Serif

  1. I thought you created a great montage that matched your message. Emphasizing ‘find’ and ‘him’ in your typography added a nice effect to communicate a specific idea. I also felt like using a textured background was a good way to tie the two other images together in a cohesive manner. The use of negative space worked well to create focal points around the text and images.

I had a somewhat similar concept if you want to check it out:

  2. Olivia, I LOVE this design! The amount of texture in the picture makes it look so awesome. This looks like it could be in the Ensign! I love the natural looking colors you used throughout the design with the photos and the text. I also love the fonts that you chose for your text – they worked perfectly for the design. Overall this design turned out great!
